Here is a guide to Hard Reset the Motorola phones that are available in the market right now such as the Moto G5 Plus and the Moto M.
STEP 1: Go to your settings app and navigate to the backup and reset option.
STEP 2: Now select the factory reset option and then press the reset phone option. It should ask you for any password or pattern lock you set for the phone.
STEP 3: Once you enter your password or pattern there will be an erase everything button. Do note that this completely wipes all data on the phone’s internal memory including apps, music, photos, contacts etc. So make sure that you do this after you have backed up the data on your phone. The phone will reset itself after you press this button.
STEP 4: After the phone resets you will be able to use your phone as a fresh device and set it up as you want to.
If the above solution does not work then there is another alternate method that is listed below.
STEP 1: Make sure that your phone is switched off and that you have at the least 80% power left on the phone just to be on the safer side. Keep it unplugged from the charger.
STEP 2: Now press and hold both the volume down button, volume up button and power button at the same time. The thing to note in this step is to hold it for a short while and not just let go immediately, you’re supposed to hold it for like 5 seconds before you let go.
STEP 3: Once you let go of the buttons. You should see a menu with an image of an android that’s lying down. This is the fast boot screen. A lot of people try to touch the options here but the fast boot menu on most phones can only be navigated using the power and volume buttons.
STEP 4: Use the volume buttons to navigate the interface and use the power button to select the options. Navigate the interface with this method and then select the recovery option.
STEP 5: You should now see the phone cycle through the Motorola boot logo and then re appear with the same image of an android lying down but now with a warning sign on it. In this screen, press the power button and then the volume up button while still holding the power button. This should now take you to a new screen, which is called the recovery mode.
STEP 6: Now using the same volume and power button combo to navigate the interface. First select the Wipe cache partition option. Then again select the yes option. After wiping the cache it will take you back to the recovery mode menu.
STEP 7: From here now select the wipe data/factory reset option and then select the user data + personalized content option. Do note that this completely wipes all data on the phone’s internal memory including apps, music, photos, contacts etc. So make sure that you do this after you have backed up the data or if you can’t backup your data before doing this, then be sure about the consequences. Now after selecting this option it is going to completely wipe your phone and bring the software back to how it was when you unboxed your phone.
STEP 8: This is the last and final step. After the wiping is done it’ll take your phone back to the recovery menu and here select the reboot system now option. This should now reboot your phone which will be completely reset with no data. Set your phone up from the first and enjoy.
